SAMMY GALLOWS (Hawera, New Zealand) – is a young emcee with a range of flows, blessing gritty production with battle heavy themes, and a unique tone. He also has the insight on the struggles of mental illness, youth issues, and religion, moving effortlessly through many different topics and themes. He was consistently ranked within New Zealand’s top two battle emcees, even winning the Game Face National Battle Championship in 2007. This lead to his first mixtape entitled ‘Poisonus Youth’, which was released in 2008 under independant hip-hop label Grymeworks. This mixtape was critically acclaimed, and lead to Sammy being named ‘Most Promising New Zealand Act’ by DJ Sirvere in the Back2Basics hip-hop magazine. Shortly after its release, he stopped entering battles so that he could focus his time on a career as an artist. Catch Sammy Gallows on heavy rotation all this week.
